Niji-Yama Koi Wholesale is for the koi and water garden dealer who wants nice and affordable Japanese koi for resale. Our two locations stock all sizes and varieties of exceptional koi for you. The private Newport Beach Greenhouse is home to most of the one year old koi (tosai). Special high quality koi are also kept here in order to grow and improve. Currently, the greenhouse maintains 23,000 gallons of separated tanks filled with nice koi, goldfish and high fin shark (seasonal). With over 8000 square feet, there is a lot of room to grow and we will soon have water lilies and aquatic plants available for local dealers.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The outdoor Laguna Beach facility houses more tosai and most of our two and three year old koi. This 10,000 sq. ft facility maintains over 35,000 gallons of separated stocked ponds. We typically have most varieties of koi available. We specialize in the unusual varieties as well as the gosanke varieties.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Being in the industry for 38 years we understand the retail dealers needs and concerns. We hope to share our experience with you. The health of the koi is our number one priority. We are very careful to provide you with not only healthy koi but a real perspective on what it takes to be successful selling and maintaining Japanese koi. In this hobby you can never stop learning and that is one of the biggest reasons we get so excited.

We travel to Japan twice a year to visit the koi breeders in the beautiful Niigata mountains. We hand select for quality, color and value. It is great fun to search for all the varieties. It is not always an easy task but it is an addiction. The Japanese breeders are a very unique bunch. They are extremely hard working and honorable. Each breeder is famous for different varieties or bloodlines. We have developed long term relationships with many of them.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Ikeage means harvesting of the mud ponds !! It's hard work. Some people just make it look easy.

In the fall we search for 2 year old (Nissai) and 3 year old koi (sansai). These are what nishikigoi is all about.
Each year, the breeder puts the top 10% back into the mud ponds to grow for another summer season. What comes out of the mud in October is truely spectacular. The body shape, color and skin condition can be jaw droppping.

These high quality nishikigoi are purchased by true koi collectors around the world. We stock 200 to 400 nissai and sansai each year.

In the springtime baby koi are available. Tosai are usually born in May or June and by February are strong enough to ship and sell. The 5"-6" tosai is what sells the best to beginning hobbyists. They are affordable and very pretty. We bring in approximately 4000 tosai from these breeders. Kawakami, Yamazaki, Miyatora, Torazo, Marusada, Izumiya, Ogata, Koda, Aoki, Kase, Suda and others.

We stock almost all varieties.

We adhere to a very strict protocol. All new koi are quarantined, medicated and microscoped for parasites. They are held at 72 degrees for 3 to 4 weeks whereby they are tested for KHV virus by veterinarian Dr. Rob Hildreth. Once they pass quarantine and testing we slowly drop the temperature to ambient and they are released for sale. We keep each breeders koi separate from other breeders koi until they have proven to be strong and healthy. You should also initiate a koi quarantine protocol for all new arrivals. You as a dealer need to have the proper tools, tanks, filtration, medications and protocol in place to ensure a healthy stock. See our Koi Health Protocol Guideline.
